pewxx2.dll Mistery File? Virus?
(1/1)
reddisk:
I am looking for the source of a file called pewxx2.dll
on an windows 98 second edition system.
Have cleared some 40 viruses but still this comes up.
Where would you look for the source of a "can not load..." dialog
box if a search of system.ini win.ini and registry does not show
that name.
This raises the question of what else is there to look at/tear apart/block/control in windows below the registry.
The StartED utility keeps the boot startup cleaned out.
Searching for pewxx2.dll on google only returns one foreign language hit.
I am going to check fuckmicrosoft.com but fact is when you only get
one hit on google...
The symptom is that the system reboots shortly after the message can not
load pewxx2.dll comes up. It does this after reinstall of windows 98
as that process reloads and brings up the desktop...up pops the can not load ....and as if on an timer it reboots.
Virus sites do not list anything on pewxx2.dll.
Thanks.

voidmain:
This is the wrong forum for this question. Could someone move it to the Windows forum? My suggestion is to get rid of Windows and you will no longer have a virus problem.
choasforages:
wow, source of a windows dll, i wouldn't want to declare myself inelgiable for other opensource projects, and voidmain, glad to move it
saddlemagic:
Did you do a complete reinstall of Win98?
My source tells me that you have to rename Win.com before doing the reinstall or Windows will only do a partial installation.
sporkme:
looks like you have no real choice but to repartition, reformat, reinstall.
do you have antivirus software?
linux doesnt get viruses
