I've been thinking about the ELUA a lot recently and I think some laws need to be introduced as far as the sale purchasing software and even music and DVDs are concerned.
The organisation selling you the right to use the software/data should not dissallow you the following rights:
[list=1]
- Make a backup copy.
- Transfer the licence to another individual.
- Transfer the licence to another machine.
- Remove any of your statutory rights already provided by consumer law (probably already illegal).
This should apply to all data on removable media or on internal user modifiable or re-wrightable media, this prevents people from demanding a backup coppy of firmware for example a backup of their BIOS.
What do you lot think?
Do you think it's workable?
