Good file hosting
« on: 26 March 2006, 05:40 »
Anyone know of good file-hosting sites ? Looks like rapidshare's servers are under heavy traffic ... their bandwidth is 9999 out of 10000 ... not good. And I've been looking for other sites and I can't find any descent ones at all.

Don't just google it and post everything you find ... not all file hosts are equal ... some have mediocre bandwidth and downloads are limited to say 20 KB/sec ... so ...

Requirements of a good file host:
1) High bandwidth ... downloads should go at maximum speed your connection can take ... at least 300 KB/sec
2) No, or very short wait times ... I don't wanna wait 3 hours to begin to download a file ... that just sux
3) Must host multiple file formats ... illhostit only hosts pictures (I thought it used to host files at one point) ... but this is useless if you wanna host other types of files ... of course it should not host potentially dangerous files
4) No hijaking ads ... ads are ok, but ads that bounce you around to all sorts of sites are a real bummer ... you know
5) Large file size limit and capability of hosting split files ... I consider 30-50 MB large ... it's not asking much, cuz if it's smaller and you wanna host large files ... you're gonna upload tons of pieces ... that sux too

I once found the perfect file host ... but I lost the fucking link ... damn me ... it was all green and it hosted up to 30 MB and it had very few ads ... no wait time ... could host all formats ... max download speed ... perfection

http://fileanchor.com/ is good, but it only hosts 20MB
Of course, you can avoid uploading the files and use a bittorrent system.
Operating System Advocacy. I've given up on the Microsuck project, as well as any of the minisite spinoffs. You can still view the new beta site, though!

If you plan to post thes files on a forum you'll need to host the torrents or persuade the administrator to allow you to attach them.
This is not a Windows help forum, however please do feel free to sign up and agree or disagree with our views on Microsoft.

Oh and FUCKMicrosoft! :fu:

Well, a torrent needs a tracker, and you must register & upload the torrent to a tracker, and so, you'll need to upload it to demonoid, isohunt, torrentspy, etc.
The Azeurus client will allow you to be your own tracker if you set it up for it.

That is the only niche unless you upload to a tracker.

Torrents work alright, but only if there are seeders ... unfortunately, there are NEVER any seeders ... or maybe just 1 or 2 ... and like 100 leechers ... which usually takes 24-48 hrs to download even a small file ... :( :( :(
