I've been meaning to post a small reply in this thread, but kept forgetting ...

Actually, stuff (about 80 % of all sources I've tried to compile) does compile ... I was missing a few key libraries, that was all :D (SDL libraries seem to be indispensible, especially when compiling games)

One thing that's been bugging me lately is autoconf issues. BZFlag requires 1.6 or newer, and 1.9 won't install. Anything that ships with a configure.sh script packed in the tarball or CVS works fine, but all the autogen stuff doesn't work.
