I'm sure a lot of people expected a delay like this. It's not the first time they delayed a launch.

On a side not I've heard on CNN that manegment of at the Windows development office sucks horribly.

Aloone_Jonez:
I don't believe this, they're not going to rewrite over half of their operating system.

mobrien_12:
I don't believe it either.  The Fine Article has no quote from a reliable source about 60% being rewritten.

I belive they are having problems.  That's because they are not writing an operating system (no, an OS runs programs).  They are trying to write a super-delux, vendor-lock-in, force consumers to upgrade, heavily bloated, overly complicated, DRM-up-the-wazoo for sake of the people they really value (RIAA and MPAA), whiz-bang, super hyped, eye-candy laden, ultra integrated so they can get monopolies on everything, abomonation.

It's not like it matters anyway.  It will be installed on all the non-mac PC's when it comes out.  The only real setback is to Bill's world-domination-by-levaraging-their-monopoly plan.

EDIT: Article is at http://www.betanews.com/article/Microsoft_No_Vista_Code_Changes/1143232877, if you wish to avoid digg

I know, it's digg (ugh), but that whole "60%" thing was a bunch of crap anyways. Knew that the second I visted some MSDN blog (either the ie7 one, or the oldnewthing).

"hey are trying to write a super-delux, vendor-lock-in, force consumers to upgrade, heavily bloated, overly complicated, DRM-up-the-wazoo for sake of the people they really value (RIAA and MPAA), whiz-bang, super hyped, eye-candy laden, ultra integrated so they can get monopolies on everything, abomonation."

I wish people would upgrade, personally. I know it's a pipe dream and you're going to have your "die-hard" Windows 98 users (just like your Mac OS Classic users) that will switch only when hell freezes over or they have to because their machine finally "dies" :|. When I think of people still using IE4 it makes me cringe. Oh, and note: I didn't say what they should upgrade to..

* I would say Linux, but someone would bring up "hardware support issues", "tech support nightmares due to distro differences", etc.
* I would tell them to get a Mac, but i'm not convinced the platform has enough developers yet (It doesn't help when people are screaming Cocoa and ObjC, when they could use a language they ALREADY KNOW with Carbon). I don't really like their lock-in with the iTunes music store either.
* I wouldn't say Vista at this time, as a) it's not out, b) SP1 isn't out yet for it, and c) probably in for more delays waiting. I could go into some anti-"Microsoft" rant here, but I see no need considering where i'm posting :P.
