Ballmer Won't Dismiss Idea of Suits Against Linux

(1/1)

--- Quote ---          An anonymous reader writes "According to an interview with Steve Ballmer in Forbes, Microsoft is open to the possibility of filing patent suits against Linux in the interest of their shareholders. Ballmer said: 'Well, I think there are experts who claim Linux violates our intellectual property. I'm not going to comment. But to the degree that that's the case, of course we owe it to our shareholders to have a strategy.' Microsoft filed more than 3000 new applications for software patents in 2005 and already owns more than 4000 patents, including many patents on fundamental, but trivial technologies, like double clicks."

Aloone_Jonez:
The question is do MS have any valid patents?

I'd like to say no but they could possibly have a few as far as the law is concerned but certainly not as many as they've filed.

H_TeXMeX_H:
Ballmer is fucking hilarious ...

--- Quote --- Frankly, people value not only the compatibility our stuff has with itself, but they value the add-ons and the third-party customization that people have done. As long as we keep pushing the pace of innovation and delivering that value, I think we have a great opportunity.

--- Quote --- I probably know more now than I did six months or a year ago, about what's going on. So I'm getting smarter every day.
