I recognize the irony of this situation, and I'd be laughing along with you if I wasn't so upset. Based on all my research over the last couple days, and a call to Apple Support, I have come to the conclusion that Apple has been shipping out MacBookPros that have defective Airport Express cards in them for a couple weeks. The computer works absolutely fantastic as long as the Airport card is turned off. Unfortunately, this means that I cannot use the internet. I normally take my computer to the pub a couple nights a week for beers and downloads, but I can't use their network for more than about 10 minutes before a kernel panic.
Over the phone, Apple support suggested I take the computer to my local Apple shop for fault diagnosis. Which I am going to do as soon as my car is out of the shop (another sweet irony - it's a Volkswagen).
As for installing Windows on my Mac, fuck right off. I don't even allow Windows Media Player or MS Office on my computer. Linux, maybe, if things ever got really bad. Never Windows. But as I said, it's a hardware issue, not OSX's fault.
