« on: 7 June 2006, 20:46 »
Hi

i beleive that hotmail emails tht you read , or even reply to are not kept on your PC. But infact kept on "Hotmail Servers"

(yes i know they leave a link to the login page)

but he is saying i could image your hard drive load it onto a non internet pc, and i could prnt out all your hotmail emails etc etc . without accessing the internet or hacking my user pass for Hotmail.

The webpages will be kept temporarily on the harddrive (in the cache) - for at least 300 seconds ("Cache-Control: private,max-age=300" - thank you web-developer toolbar for FF). I'm not sure if most web-browsers would delete them after 300s, but if you've cleared the cache yourself then they'll be gone.
GMail uses "Cache-Control: no-cache", so it won't be cached atall.

Why don't you just give your friend an image of your harddrive and see if he can print out your emails (he might get a few, but it's not possible that he'd always get them all)?

This thread should be in the lounge...

If you live in the US, all your emails actually reside on NSA servers, M$ just prefers you to think they have them on theirs.:D

Don't think this belongs in Moron zone.    Lounge would be better as it has nothing to do with how Microsoft Operating Systems suck.

Solemn, this guy might be English as second language.  You wouldn't go to a tourist who came to your country trying to speak your language sincerely yet imperfectly and criticise him, would you?

MercM. you asked webmail kind of question, not really a Microsoft help question, but based on your third post, I just would like to make sure you understand that this is not a microsoft help forum.

[offtopic]...and I used to wonder what happend to all the users on MES when I  came back after like 2 years later... and don't give the dude a hard time, english is obviously not his first language. :nothappy:[/offtopic]

And no, you canonot download everything from hotmail to your hard drive. Maybe with some third party program that will log you in and get everything (if it exists).

personally i think solemnwarning is being a bit harsh.

mannick, you need to see that it isn't you that is being insulted, it is just that on this forum, there are a lot of people who come here and ask dumb questions about their microsoft software, and they fail to see that this site is an anti microsoft site, therefore it is the worst site to ask these questions on.

having said that, i think this question is perfectly valid for this forum, since it is about microsoft's data storage arrangements. There have been many good topics on this subject here, and in fact the "famous" microsoft's hidden files article is in the same vein as this question.

so, without meaning to cause offence to solemnwarning either, i think that solemn's comments were probably out of line.

it's probably just a misunderstanding.
