Spain illegalises p2p networks
« on: 1 July 2006, 15:20 »
Time to remove spain from the possible resorts list?

Spain Outlaws P2P File-Sharing

Quote
[0]Section_Ei8ht writes "Spanish Congress has [1]made it a civil offense
to download anything via p2p networks, and a criminal offense for ISP's
to allow users to file-share
, even if the use is fair. There is also to
be a tax on all forms of blank media, including flash memory drives. I
guess the move towards distributing films legally via BitTorrent is a no
go in Spain." Here is our coverage of the [2]tax portion of this law.

edit:

Seems like the article is misleading and it regards copyrighted material. That means that It's just like in Sweden right now.

Quote
A Spanish intellectual property law has finally banned unauthorized peer-to-peer file-sharing in Spain, making it a civil offense even to download content for personal use.

Distribution of films legally and of FreeBSD and of Linux by Bittorrent is P2P distrubution of Copyright protected material.  One just is given permission by the copyright holders to do so.

Spain cannot have it both ways.

This is complete BULLSHIT and is total discrimination against small media copyright holders who rely on P2P for distribution.

But of course, that's what *AA was after all along.

Considering right on Debian's page it recomends you use BitTorrent to download the files

This is a completly useless piece of legislatio, considering that the EUCD gives governments the power to clamp down on illegal distribution already - regardless of medium.

Either there is an ulterior motive here, or the heat has gotten to the Spanish.
I imagine TimeWarner will lobby against this, since in scuppers thier new BitTorrent based distributin model. I wonder if they have the power to make a difference?
Contains scenes of mild peril.

Not until our generation who understand these techologies get into power will all this bullshit end, with the ageing populations this may take a while.

Negative Ghost Rider, The pattern is full.

Not to delve into politics, but tomorrows leaders are allready picked, groomed and waiting their turn. By the time you speak of, we'll be entering a world of Corporate dominated governments with CEO's instead of prime ministers or presidents.

The grip business has on these kind of things is quite substantial.

It's no longer a consumers market. We'll buy what they sell and be happy about it.
