I wonder if "Star Wars" would have been better or worse if it had the balls and foresight to ignore its own self-importance? Watching Wedge and Biggs hi-five and say "I feel the need ... the need for speed!", for example. That's what a real Rebel fighter ace would do. Anakin's cockiness, Yoda's mysticism, Padme's fine titties, and many other aspects of the 6-pack could have been post-postmodernly over-emphasized until they became meaningless. Would that have made for a more entertaining movie? It certainly didn't help "Starship Troopers". But I still can't help but wonder.
