this is Windows XP Home that is doing this.
my computer will be good for about 2 weeks then it just turns to shit, crashes all the time. my brother was making a music CD and the computer crashed on him, he was so pissed off he nearly threw the mouse against the wall.

It is probably Windows XP Home installed as an upgrade to Windows ME or Windows 98SE. If you want a stable XP try doing a clean install of XP Professional(preferrably) or Windows XP Home if that is all you have(XP Home sucks in my opinion). Update your BIOS before doing the clean install if you haven't updated it recently.

*gasp* but that would mean finding the real source of the problem instead of blaming Windows and just living with it.

Unfortunately that is very hard to do, for three reasons.
1.) Nobody has access to the source code.
2.) The registry is a goddamned mess compared to simple text files Linux uses.
3.) If the problem is with a driver, you are SOL, due to fact #1 (most drivers for Windows are proprietary)

zombie. the version of Windows installed is Windows XP Home OEM. it's one of those CDs you get cheap when you buy a custom computer at a computer store. no junk ware on it (like eware, AOL or any other crap).
Windows was the first program put on the hard drive and the BIOS was not fudged with.
