All Things Microsoft > Microsoft Software

Let's make a list of why Windows sucks

One more for the list-

With one of the latest updates, M$ now has hard coded backdoors in your dns resolver dll that you can't edit or XP won't boot because the dll is now a protected image file.

Open dnsapi.dll (system32 folder) in notepad and you can see go.microsoft.com and other ip's that override your HOST file settings.

When you open ceratin apps, they call home and check for updates whether you want them to or not. The only way to block them is with a non-winblows external firewall.

Pathos:
* XP home requires you to restart in safe mode and log in as an administrator to change file permissions.

* can't enable user switching and screen locking at the same time.

* Business decisions take priority over security decisions. (default administrative access, administrator password not set on install, programs execute unverified code without double checking).

* Parts of the OS are never upgraded unless there is public outcry.

* Inconsistent gui (eg XP theme vs classic dialogs all over the place).

* You need third party software to hack the damn thing to change its appearance properly.

* Built in flaws to ensure need to upgrade

* poor text only interface

* messy codec handling

* f*cking obtuse registry

* poor driver standards and consistency.

* poor security on initially released products (got to make money before you fix it)

+ you can't install the piece of shit to a slave harddrive. I've been trying to install this fucking thing over a number of weeks and it's just TOO FUCKING MUCH!

No wonder I hate using it. I will soon quit using it altogether when I get a new computer (although I need it to access the gaming site I play on).

Gimme gimme a product that isn't Microsoft.

By the way, Refalm, what is a NAT box?
