Steal This Film

I just watched it (part 1), it's well made, raises some good points. And it was the fastest any torrent downloaded for me ever! (so many people seeding+downloading it at this early stage)

If you're into this kinda stuff, it's a must see.

a poem by my computer, Macintosh Vigilante
Macintosh amends a damned around the requested typewriter. Macintosh urges a scarce design. Macintosh postulates an autobiography. Macintosh tolls the solo variant. Why does a winter audience delay macintosh? The maker tosses macintosh. Beneath female suffers a double scum. How will a rat cube the heavier cricket? Macintosh calls a method. Can macintosh nest opposite the headache? Macintosh ties the wrong fairy. When can macintosh stem the land gang? Female aborts underneath macintosh. Inside macintosh waffles female. Next to macintosh worries a well.

Before I get a chance to see it, I would like to comment on the name.  It sucks.  When Abie Hoffman first wrote "Steal this Book", it was an intriguing title.  The book contained instructions on (among other things) how to steal books.  So it was creative as well as honest.  Since then, "Steal this *" has become overused.  There's a series of books called "Steal this Computer Book" about computer security, which costs $30 each.  There's an album of outtake recordings by System of A Down called "Steal this Album", which costs just as much as a regular album.  You can probably think of many other examples.

So, this film, from the getgo, sounds like a creative scam.  Certainly, it is free, and it tells you how to 'steal' films.  But the overuse of the term makes it sound stupid.  Even though the film was title was symbolic in a way Abie Hoffman might have approved of, the rest of the assclowns out there have destroyed the potential meanings of the phrase.

It's a documentary about file sharing. There's a lot in it about the pirate bay - the raid and all.

Even if it has been used before I can't think of a more fitting name given its context. It is a documentary as well which generally do nick (steal? :P)  names from previous media.

He's just saying he's not that hopefull and they could have been more creative with the name to avoid the stigma of another "steal this" thing. Besides, if it's boring...Worker201 will love it :D

it is boring. just a bunch of nerds laughing at how the got the pirate bay back up in 3 days after the mpaa led police crackdown.

The only defence they seem to give for people's unpaid use of the media they assist in distributing is that hollywood needs to change their 'production model' to cope...what a great excuse.

Exactly - expecting $10 for a piece of plastic is crazy.

And what's the offense? "We have to pay for our food", brilliant.
