For crying outloud, XP SUX !
« on: 28 March 2003, 23:46 »
I just had to work on an XP Dell laptop. All I was doing was setting up DSL connection and it took me 3 times as long as "normal" than on a Win98. I had to reboot the thing 3 times because it froze up. I hate that dopey Fisher Price interface. I was using the search function and I don't understand the damn thing. It had a fucking animated dog bolloxing around the screen and the window displays about 15-20 items in the list. Why can't I expand the window to display the entire list ? Why force me to scroll ? Stupid. WTF ?!! Maybe I am being petty.

i had the opposite problem with networking. WinXP detects the network card and can connect but Win98 couldn't even detect what brand my NIC card was  :(  it's a DLink card... probably about 4 years old.

You know, you aren't being forced to use the Lunar theme. Tweak it for fucks sake. Pop the classic one back on. Turn the damned animated search dog off. Get off your lazy arse.

I offered someone to remove all annoying Windows XP features, tweak it so that it actually uses the RAM memory, fuck Luna, and remove that damned dog.

He was OK with tweaking Windows XP to use all the RAM, but he refused to let me change the stupid balloon pop-ups, change Luna into classic, because he liked them. I suddenly felt like hurting him.

Do you turn VM off to make it use all of the RAM? I was forced to (but well paid to) set someone up with a Windows XP server (shoot me, oh well) and it would be nice to have it use all of the RAM.

I've found a document where it is written how to do it. Because I don't want an Office XP user to read it, I've converted it to OOo Write format (sxw). Click here for the document.

And btw, SmoothWall GPL (the one I'm using) makes a far better router+firewall then any Windows version could ever be.

put them in front of openoffice and they will never know the difference (except that they will suddenly be able to open star and open office documents).
