"my computer" dissapeared off of my desktop and i can not figure out why or how to get it back.  The only way i can get it back is by using the new crappy start menu, right clicking on my computer in the star menu, and selecting "show on desktop". then when i change the start menu back to the old style, "my computer" is gone.  What the fuck is going on??????  Also, file sharing no longer works right.  the other computer asks for a password.  Xp never asked me to set a network passord since i set up the fucking OS.

Does anyone else have to put up with this shit?

To put 'My computer' and other stuff back:
Right click on the desktop >
Click 'Properties' >
Click the 'Desktop' tab >
Click the 'Customize Desktop' button at the bottom >
Check any of the desktop icons you want (there are 4)

You're done. Complicated and hidden, yes, but what did you expect?

As for file sharing, the only thing that I've managed to get working was my Mac and XP. Linux and XP don't work too well together.

So, as far as I can tell, your computer is still on the top of your desk...  :D

And why do you care about the "my computer" icon?
