After 43 days of operation, my Win 98 server went BSOD. Actually though... It's still running, but won't connect to the net... Not a very useful  server that way though.

I think I'll put XP on it and see how long that goes.

Save money; make it a Linux server.

I hate to tell you but win98 has a known memory leak...which by the way Micr$haft did not fix in ME.  Frankly I am shocked you made it run that long.

Yep. The 43 or 47 (can't remember) days of uptime bug. That just shows you that Windows REALLY sucks, and can't stay up for more than 1.5 months.

EDIT: Ahh, there it is. Win98 crashes 49.7 days (if you make it that far):

If you're gonna put up a new server, at least throw Mandrake or somthing on there.  No sense in throwing away money on WP.

No winding this time. I'm quite amazed that it lasted that long too. I also knew of the 49 day bug long beforehand.

yes, but the 49 day bug is quite patently not at the root of the problem this time, unless you missed count by six days!

windows 9x doesnt have a way of knowing how long the computer has been up does it? xp kind of does if you have a cable connection you can check the connection duration er whatever. of course logically on *nix just type 'uptime' at a shell   .

There is an "uptime.exe" for Windows. I actually installed it on one of my windows computers a while back.  Do a search for "uptime.exe."  Anyway, my Linux server had an uptime of over 350 days until I brought it down to add another hard drive. The last time it went down before that was due to a power failure.  It isn't a "mission critical" server, just a toy for me and some friends to play with.

Current uptime is:

[dishawjp@ip4 dishawjp]$ uptime
  7:05pm  up 51 days, 15:51,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Ok, only 51 days so far.  Give me another few months.  It'll look better then.
