Longhorn. Whats your opinion?
slave:
quote:In any case, from what I hear Longhorn is very.... well.. wierd. It redesigns the desktop metaphore from scratch from what I hear. It should be interesting to see actually.

All this means is that Longhorn will have window shadows, folder "piles" from OS X.3, and maybe the multiple desktop features and panel design of GNOME. Actually I would like it if they just went ahead and took *all* the good UI features from OS X, at least then most of the computers I encounter day-to-day would be nice to use!

Your a sick man.
Faust:
I saw screenshots of a leaked longhorn beta in australian personal computer magazine. what "radical changes?" they did two things from what i saw : put the startbar thats normally on the bottom of the screen to being on the left hand side of the screen. "wow." i mean i couldnt do that with my mouse or anything myself...
two they made the quickstart toolbar (you know the one no-one uses?) bigger.
oh and apparently it will "centralise" file storage. and they had a bigger clock embedded in the start bar. i would go and get the magazine with the article in it but its in canberra and im in victoria so im kinda gunna have to wait till i post the screenshots... they could be on apcmag.com but i warn you the site is pretty crap.
i dont really care if they steal gnomes drawers and mac os' piles. a crap os is a crap os whether they copy good os' or not.
Faust:
stupid people will buy/pirate this though i guarantee you. the urge to have the latest version is just too strong.
quote from dilbert:

marketing goon ur new product is a step backwards in performance and reliability! we're counting on your irrational need to own the latest version.
dilbert:i hate your weasel guts. but i'll take two, one for the home and one from the office.

and i read today some company upgraded some of its mother boards and needed to reactivate their windows xp copies. microsoft has told them that "now they're new computers and you need to buy a new product activation code." lol.
