I actually think this diversification is a good thing for those of us not using Windows. Why? The simple explanation is that it shows that even Microsoft has a waning interest in the desktop market, which has really been their bread-and-butter. Perhaps they'll actually dump Vista and just make an all-out acquisitions push for the Internet so they'll finally cement their "most hated" reputation. This is something IBM tried to do in the OS sphere with roughly the same amount of money (in 1980 dollars), and look where they are now - Thinkpads and server blades. Perhaps Microsoft will revisit Big Blue's downfall for the good of technology as a whole. :D
