I think the tone of these windows people would change considerably if they all had to shell out the full retail price for windows and all the kewl appz they run.
I know most of these guys just acquired windows because it came on their pc pre-installed, and all their kewl appz were dled from Kazaa or the like.

You're not gonna be able to run these warez for long, kiddies!!!

I'd actually pay out for XP after using it for so long. Hell, unless MS gives some extra features in Longhorn, I might be staying with XP for a while.

As for other software. I doubt I use d/l software more then once. I usually d/l whatever because I happen to need it for some reason, and then just delete it. All my other software is freeware from cnet.

I feel lucky, seeing as I use a hardware platform in which the quality of OS selections are

Mac OS 9 (good)
Mac OS X (Damn good)
Linux (Damn good)
And on some of my older Macs, Be OS (Damn good)

As well as, I'm sure countless others. It's just that the two main choices (Mac OS and Linux) are both good, unlike Windows (mediocre at best) and Linux/UNIX (damn good). So, on PCs, I really only have one choice, Linux or UNIX based OSes. Windows isn't really a choice, it's just something I put on the HD so I can fiddle with X Wing Alliance or TIE Fighter or some other old game that doesn't like VPC and argues with Wine.
Go the fuck ~
