Longhorn
« on: 15 April 2004, 01:05 »
Now, as a longtime apple user, Im used to microsoft ripping apple off. From the visulizer in Windows media player (iTunes), Graphical interface (first mac), Appleworks featres put in office, etc. But when I heard that Longhorn has the same metalic interface that panther does, I looked it up, and it looks very simular to the brushed metal.

Apple should sue......

Do you have a link? I'd like to see this.

EDIT: found this- http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=14694&category=main

EDIT2: http://www.artformsdesign.com/uploads/Ecsyle_explorer.jpg

Look at all the wasted space
Wow. Horrible interface. Almost half the window is taken up by the menu, and the menu bar, goddamn. It is far too large. Then there is more menu on the side. I hate it. Absolutely hate it. And it looks nothing like brushed metal. lol

Being a proffessional interface designer and having looked at these screen grabs I can heartily say that Longhorn is gonna have alot of failings in its interface.

The whole thing lacks intiuitivity.

I looks like another case of microsoft leading windows down a very restrictive path for user experience.

They seriously need to redefine the interface!

It looks like the mess I usually make in my own room. A little bit here and a little bit there and everything is thrown around like a smaller hurricane. The only thing that looks good is that "bliss" desktop pic.

Keep in mind that Longhorn is far from being released and that it will probably look at lot different by the time it is released.  But, what is with the big fucking clock?  Now that was not there before, and it is a huge waste of space.

Oh yeah, this is more of a MS topic then an Apple topic so I am going to put it in the MS OS section.

Don't forget, Longhorn is still in the works. The interface can change drastically. They plan on making the clock bigger, the taskbar bigger, the sidebar bigger and rainbow colored and have 350 different wallpapers OF SOME FUCKING FIELD
I am sofa king high. (Read out loud)

iTunes was created much later than Windows Media Player and it had visuals in it. I believe the first media player to incorporate visuals was Winamp. So, technically, Windows copied off of Winamp and Apple copied off of Windows.

Graphical interface (first mac)

I hate to break this to you, but Apple never had the first GUI. There were many before it dating back to 1963. The first GUI was developed for MIT. It also wasn’t the first consumer computer with a GUI either (incase you want to attempt to argue at that angle) because there was one created and released a few years before Apple’s computer was released.

Name them because I can guarantee you Microsoft did not rip them off.

You may have been wrong about the other stuff, but I do agree it looked similar to panther’s crap..

How professional of you to judge an operating System that is in the ALPHA state of development and is 3 years away from being released.

Cram it moron. Aero and Aero Glass have yet to be enabled in any build of Longhorn, which will make the UI look much better and it should become more intuitive (though, it looks intuitive to me especially since it's the same interface that XP uses). Everything you've seen so far is basically a place holder until Aero is implemented fully.

I think that's the point.
