New here,  I am not a programmer but I have finally reached the point that your group falls
in my range..

A new item in Gates Fuck you column.

On or about 3-6  I downloaded "critical update"
1147( or follow up).  What a bomb in this package.  V4 cab iuident.

This has locked me out of all non MS software.
I can't access files, I am locked out of my BIOS

I have trouble booting.

Library download will retry (error 0x801901F7

I am forced to have MS auto search window everytime I try to use my browser.

Since this download  I have already lost over 100 meg of disk space in hidden files.

A google search of iuident will show what they are
publicly showing as "Information" gathered from
this new spyware..  What else?  I don't know.

What I hope to find here is as cheap as possible
the best DOS ~ I want one that was a reliable as
my old IBM 2.01 that ran 15 years w/o a problem.
One that does not allow hidden system files.

An easy to use replacement for Windows,  MY wife
can not use anything to complex and needs something that can interface with windows.

A browser/mailer that will allow me to block spam,
esp Microsnot.

Any suggestions,  please keep them as cheap as possible.  I have been force to retire early for
health reasons and my "retirement benifits" don't
amount  to a pee hole in the snow.

Thanks
Byron

i suggest that you try a few distrobutions of linux. there are several that are free for the download.
i suggest you try suse or knoppix to see if all your hardware is compatible. both of those distros run without transfering files to the harddrive. then you could back up critical files. once that is done then its time for a format.
if yoiu absolutley need windows then re-instal it. i have been able to find dos 6.0 on the net so if thats all you need i would go for that alone. then you can install which ever linux distro that suits you best.
most like mandrake or redhat 8.0, but there are dozens so i would browse www.linuxiso.org   or   www.linux.org

my personal favs are lycros, redhat8  and suse.
