FDISK /MBR only restores the master boot record, not the partition table. Sounds like a physical problem, or an incorrectly configured BIOS.

yes.. i believe it to be a misconfigured BIOS.
You should check on maxtors website for the cylinders, heads, sectors, tracks, size and set them up properly in the BIOS.
