BasiliskII crashes on MacBook Pro
« on: 10 January 2011, 03:31 »
I have OS 8 on cd. When booting it gets as far as loading all the extensions (puzzle pieces) then crashes hard enough for it to ask me to tell Apple. Of course I'm not telling Apple, they haven't made OS 8 free yet.

Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000067db5321
Crashed Thread:  8

Thread 8 Crashed:
0   BasiliskII                       0x0003227e op_2050_0_ff(unsigned int) + 30 (cpuemu.cpp:7343)
1   BasiliskII                       0x00005c2c -[NNThread wrapper] + 95
2   com.apple.Foundation             0x9140bbf0 -[NSThread main] + 45
3   com.apple.Foundation             0x9140bba0 __NSThread__main__ + 1499
4   libSystem.B.dylib                0x9313885d _pthread_start + 345
5   libSystem.B.dylib                0x931386e2 thread_start + 34

Thread 8 crashed with X86 Thread State (32-bit):
  eax: 0x00005120  ebx: 0x14841000  ecx: 0x00000004  edx: 0x53574321
  edi: 0x0033e690  esi: 0x00095340  ebp: 0xb062cd68  esp: 0xb062cd14

  cr2: 0x67db5321

I'm not including the binary images here because the text would be too long. I do remember one thread crash mentioned being unable to parse 24 bit memory. I'm using a MacBook Pro 5,5 That's 2.26 GHz Core2Duo. It did this in 10.6.5 and now the same after running the 10.6.6 update yesterday.

Any clues as to what the problem is? I have no trouble running OS 9 under SheepShaver except that after I installed Norton Utilities it hung the OS hard and I was forced to get in before it started scanning to stop indexing the drive, then manually remove Norton Utilities.
BasiliskII won't boot from Norton Utilities cd either without crashing hard.

If you're looking to use Apple Mac OS 8 (not based on UNIX), you probably have the wrong processor. Mac OS 1-X 10.2 (I think) don't support Intel Core 2 Duo.

This is Basilisk II compiled for OSX. It's fine until the extensions have loaded and the screen refreshes.
