Mandrake 8.2 has a bug related to the AMD processor. Being Linux newbie I was experimenting.

The bug screws up right after the partitioning, so I thought I was screwing up the partition, and maybe the partition table was being written incorrectly (I am totally unfamiliar with Ext2 and indeed any disk filing system outside of Fat32, NTFS or HPFS). But the Mandarke site's bug fix cured it, I lost an OS that I didn't need. Another bye bye to Billy boy.  :D
