All Things Microsoft > Microsoft Software
windows is written in Basic
worker201:
I'm pretty sure it's all C++. MFC is definitely C++.
Altho I have seen small programs that require Visual Basic Runtime Libraries, so there are programs that are built from MFC graphics, but powered by VB engines - probably because Microsoft won't release enough code for shareware developers to study/copy/emulate. The big boys (Adobe, Symantec, etc.) probably pay plenty of fees for their API/integration access. Don't quote me on that, though - just a conspiracy theory.

Not to mention the fact that BASIC is an interpreted language. You would need a software or built in hardware component, to interpret it to Machine code.

Basic can also be compiled, originally it always was, then Microsoft made the "BASIC Interpreter".
