Windows fan boys piss me off!
« on: 22 May 2002, 07:08 »
You know what my friend just said to me?
He said and I quote: "You shouldn't worry about the spyware in Windows XP.  All they are doing is gethering statistics."

What the hell is he on?  Surveys are supposed to be anonymous, not forced.  And Microsoft has no right to know what it's customers do on their own computers!  I told him that they gather exact information, like exactly what web sites you go to or what songs you listen to in WMP, and his responce was: "Oh wow, they know I listen to Eminem and go to porn sites!  Lord save me!"(note the extreme sarcasm).

He is only one example of the kind of people who let MS get away with this dishonest and predetory crap.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this, but is there anyway to get him out of his dazed fantasy world, so he can realize why MS is in trouble in the first place?

People like him piss me off.

Oh yes there sure is.  You need to invite your friend over someday and then throw him in a cage.  Force him to read about how M$ has been abusing both their monopoly power, and how they have used the information that they have been illegally collecting on people's pcs in the past.  (which amendment was it that protected against illegal searches and seisures?)  Once he knows what has been happening, ask him if he still trusts M$.

if(friendsResponse==true)
{
shoot(friend) //there is no hope for this kind of
              //person, and we want him out of
              //the gene-pool anyways
}
else
{
M$informed=M$informed+1 //we have victory!!!
return 0;
}

Gathering statistics??? Ok, I'ma  Winboy myself right now, but this is PATHETIC! I do agree that XP phones home waaaaaay to much, that's why I had to neuter XP.

MS can get their "statistics" elsewhere.

this is utterly fucking pathetic. first of all, who will you believe? we only have M$' word that they are not doing anything nefarious with the data, also, check the EULA, you will see that if they were doing something dodgy, they would be within their rights, also you will see that there is no clause to stop them using said data for other purposes in the future. the data will not just expire after a certain period, they have it for life.
Also, nobody knows what actual data M$ collects/has collected. we only, again, have their word for it that it is trivial.
Finally, any collection of data is immoral in my book. If they are collecting my data, they must be doing it so they can benefit. If they are benefitting, i am not seeing any of the profits, ipso facto, they are stealing from me. Those are my thoughts, the end. thank you and goodnight.

even if they write in their EULA that they don't do anything with the data, they can change that on a whim and still be in their right ....

EULA's are the foundation of the evil empire.....

(in MS Office's EULA there is a part about you only being licensed to run office on windows operating systems iirc)
