Windows & IE - What the hell is this shit??/

Two questions about Windows and IE:
1) What the fuck is that index.dat file in the Cookies folder?? The file cannot be deleted from within the so called OS. What the hell is this file for and why cant it be removed along with the rest of the cookies?
2) Why the fuck do cookies go into BOTH the Cookies folder AND the Temp Internet Files folder? What the hell is the point of having them duplicated like that?

1) Is it to help when searching and looking at files & folders? To make browsing easier? I really have no idea. Just boot into linux and delete it, then see if it affects anything in windows (not like windows needs any help in that department ;) )
2) Because not event he programmers at microsoft knows what is happening in their code. Remember, there are over 50-60 million lines of code in nt5.0. Hard to monitor and understand the mess of 10 years worth of hacks & stolen code.

heh, index.dat can only be deleted from DOS!!
get this tho, windows will make a new one upon reboot. for those who don't know, index.dat can grow to MEGS in size, it is part of IE browsing history, and contains URL addresses of pages you have visited and/or typed in the address bar.
to delete it, just make a batch file and put it in the start up folder......

--- End code ---

I still think the best way to get rid of the index.dat files, is to look into it a bit deeper. What is the root of the problem? The answer of course is Windows itself. So the best course of action would be to solve the problem at the source, and in this case, that would be to get rid of windows. Completely. Then you will have solved the problem without adding even more headache to the problem, ie- adding more software, registry hacks, etc...
