Microsoft FUD Tactics
(1/1)
mr_nobody:
Out of curiosity, I searched microsoft.com for "Linux." As expected, the search turned up numerous pages on such evils as "Removing Linux and Installing Windows on Your Computer" and "Migrating from UNIX to Windows 2000 Server." Here are some quotes from the Win2k Server migration page that can be found here:
"The familiar Windows user interface further contributes to the ease of installation and management of the server."
This quote is a classic example of Microsoft's (and the computer market's) assuming everyone uses Windows and is familiar with it. I am familiar with the GNOME interface as much as I am with Windows, and familiar with the Mac interface many times more than either of them. Anyway, if I was MS, I wouldn't go bragging about Windows's crappy GUI anyway; I'd just try to redirect customers' attention to something less unpleasant.

MS had USB support years before linux, back as an addon to Win95 OSR2. Of course, it sucked and you can't use it for anything.
You had to buy 98 and get all of its added overhead just to run USB.
Likewise, you had to go to 2000 if you wanted USB on an NT kernel.
Linux was slow in getting USB, but all you gotta do is download the kernel and you got USB on your old linux system.
