SP2 on XP Home

I tried to patch a Windows XP Home computer a few days ago. I couldn't find the Windows 2000 CD, so I was stuck with XP.

Any, I downloaded a few updates, and after rebooting, I couldn't go to WindowsUpdate.com!
It displayed some weird MS XML-wannabe code.
Windows XP Home ever displayed some errors when opening programs, which weren't there unpatched.
