get the G4 instead. you can pick it up starting at $1200, and it still runs OS 9. that might not sound like a big deal, but you could then see what it's like to run a classic OS!

I use windows for the programs that only run on windows, not because I want to use windows. If the programs I use were all available on linux then I wouldn't need windows. So what, you now expect me port several million lines of code to linux on my tod? ....get realistic! Maybe one day I won't need windows, but for for now I just have to put up with it.

It is not so much windows that everyone hates, it is the company Microsoft and the cultish way it runs it's affairs.

What is the point of MES? To bitch about Windows? It's here to educate those who seek, or find by accident. The forums do a great job, but this site need to have more content on it's mainpage.

I'm one of those people who still use microsoft. It's not all that much by choice. Everytime I do a dual install,(to learn mandrake 9.1),it works fine (what little I know how to use it) untill I do a windows update. Then all sorts of things seem to go wrong with my systems. Since M$ has permission to screw up my computer,oops I'm sorry - they wouldn't do anything like that. I come here to learn and almost always pick something or another up.

I run a dual boot system (Windoze 98/Mandrake 9.1);  unfortunately I can only connect to the 'Net under the former  :mad:  as the latter doesn't appear to have any drivers to run my modem (a Swann USB 56k V90, which incidentally is quite a good little unit    ).  

I have only had Mandrake 9.1 installed for a month or so, but I find that the more I use it, the more I like it.  I would like it even more if I could use it online, then I'd hardly ever be using Win-D'OHs    :D

The only reason most people use windbloz is that any comp you buy comes with it installed.
So we are forced to use that crap...

Don't worry, help is on it's way. HP desktop computers with Linux pre-installed  ;)

WallMart has Lycoris and Lindows computers too. However, the computers themselve are beyond crappy.

My x86-based laptop, and HP Pavilion ze5507ea, has a 17GBs partition dedicated to Windows and a 33GBs one dedicated to GNU/Linux.

I also have an iBook, running OS X 10.3.2.

Yes, I am forced to use Windows myself, because there are still some compatibility issues with my mother tongue (Greek) and GNU/Linux systems. More specifically, with OOo running on GNU/Linux systems.

So, yes, I too am forced, but only do so when I really HAVE too, and not whenever I want to do something productive  ;)

That is funny, I had no idea Microsoft Windows was free. No one has ever forced me to us windows, but I have on occassion willingly used it. The same goes for macs, on occassion i have used them.

Here we go, my awful terrible secret. Though I am a Mac zealot, and I stay away from windows, something scary happened. Not long after my mom got her PowerBook, she realized it didn't have AppleWorks installed. Since she needed a things like a spreadsheet and presentation and all that other stuff office suite stuff, she gets one. But what does she do? Not buy AppleWorks. Not download OpenOffice. SHE GETS A PIRATED COPY OF MICROSOFT OFFICE FOR MAC! The horror . . .
