I was going to suggest www.2khappyware.com - unfortunately, Apple got wind of them making what essentially amounts to Mac clones and CoreComputers can't get Apple brand parts anymore.

Anyways, I took out a loan to pay for my computer - a flat panel 800Mhz iMac.  It's one sweet machine, but due to the fact that MBNA (the bank Apple does their consumer financing through) being complete assholes, I'll be paying for this thing a lot longer than I had planned.

Bleah . . .
I can't get over you until you get out from under him.

Don't worry, Maghor, XXXL Feet, there are still other alternatives out there:

I can only wish that my wonderful PC was Microshit free. In fact I dream about that everyday. Unfortunately I must use Windoze because I am a constant user Adobe products such as Photoshop, Acrobat, GoLive, Premiere, and Auition (formally known as Cool Edit). I also use tons of video tools & encoders such as VirtualDubMod and TMPGenc. There is no Unix/Linux versions of any of this software. I love video editing and can't imagine doing so with TMPGenc. It is simply the best encoder, one that is free and outputs the BEST quality MPEG1/2. So I have no choice but to feed Micro$hit OS to my computer.

You should do as Calum has suggested to me. Write the developers of the software and request linux versions

This thread is still relevant today.

I still use Windows too.

Has anyone else managed to drop Windows completely?

I haven't used Windows for about 6 months now, and I have to say, it's the best decision I have ever made in the time i've been using a computer.
Well, what can I say, I truly love Linux.

I wish linux was easier to use and there wasn't 12938798379 versions of it out there and just learning how to use seems to be proven hard enough.  I spent hours with mandrake 8.0 trying to figure out how to run simple programs, mount/unmount cds etc...   I use Windows 2000 for now even though it sux but not nearly as bad as XP crappiest bloatiest yet.

Son, the key is to read.  Read everything you can get your hands on.  Once you've gotten the hang of just one distro (gui and terminal), then the rest are easy.  Get a Linux book of some sort - as long as the word 'Linux' is on the front, you can learn something cool from it.  If you want to use redhat, go to http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/ and start reading.  Surf to http://www.tldp.org and set a bookmark immediately.  Open a terminal and type "man x", where 'x' is some word or command or phrase you've heard somewhere.  "man mount" might be a good place to start in your case.

Once you're done reading, start writing.  Get a pencil and a spiral notebook and write down all the commands you use and what they do.  Also, start yourself a vocabulary sheet, where you learn new terms and their definitions.  What does mount mean anyway?  If you know, the answers to "how do I mount X" will make more sense, and you can take your new knowledge and figure out how to mount a zip or USB stick.

And please be advised that asking random and stupid questions is encouraged (as long as you take good advice and learn from it).  Nobody was born knowing Linux, we all had to learn.

The obvious answer to the dilemma: none of you have Windows because none of you do anything. None of you have programmed anything cool, none of you have made anything new or interesting. In fact, none of you do anything at all, except read slashdot and pretend to hack. It's a sad life, and one that no OS transistion will help. I'm sorry to say it, but you're all doomed. If you don't make anything, you don't need an OS capable of it.

wtf fucking flea, since linux has been the programming os choice since it was created, i think pretty much every body who has used linux has made some shit with it, im learning C++ and have made a couple of basic programmes, so die plz thnx, plus there is always the reason of um WINDOWS SUX T3H COX. plus i do have the knowledge to hack but hackers are fuckstics so i apply the knowledge in setting up home servers and troubleshooting
wtf: windows: "Your clock settings have been changed, please restart your computer."

Well, Linux has plenty of game emulators.  I'm not sure why they would run any faster in Windows.

because most of them are windows programmers. They optimized it for directx, not so much for opengl. Also most graphic cards has the better drivers for windows than linux.
