Win98 after I upgraded my comp
« on: 1 January 2003, 04:31 »
I upgraded my comp from a P2 350, 128 mbram, i740 vidcard to an AMD Athlon XP 1800+(notice the hugeness of the upgrade, from wintel to winamd =P!) 256mbram with a NVidia GeForce 2 MX 400, and windows 98 is running slower than ever!

And yes, I am using Linux.

But how fucked up is that, you upgrade your comp and win98 is slower than before you upgraded.
Free it, goddamnit!

I am getting an Athlon XP2100+ and new mobo this friday. Unfortunately I can't afford any RAM so I am having to borrow 128Mb of PC2100 from my dad  :(  until I can afford some more, I think i'll get 512Mb PC2700.
Wish I had more money. MY PC will actually be slower because of my RAM problem, nevermind, 2 years ago I was looking at a P166  :D

same here(that p166 part)

It was a nice linux comp, to be honest. Ran Mandrake 8.2 nicely.

I'm using PC133 because I'm a cheap bastard. Maybe i'll upgrade it someday when I get more money

Yeah the P166 was a right machine, I remember when I first got it. I was like, "shit - over 100MHz!". I has a 2MB card with legendary 3D acceleration lol.
I liked that machine, I learnt most of what I know about linux with it.

hello interscope! haven't seen you around here for a while!

and re: your win98 running slower on a new machine. I advise you to listen very carefully at night just as you're going to sleep. Hear that mumbled whispery sound coming from the direction of your new computer? If you listen hard, you will be able to make out the words:

'upgrade to windows xp... upgrade to windows xp...'

Telling me to upgrade to windows xp is like telling jesus to obey satan...

I'm probably just going to keep win98 on my hd for wine and resize the partition to 400~500mb I can't bother to have something as super-bloated as XP on my comp. I don't like to waste hd space.

I don't really need it anymore since my sister is getting my old mobo+cpu+ram+hd. she needs a few more things like a box to keep it in, cd, floppy and a network card. So she won't bother me. Maybe my dad will but he used Red Hat 5.0 and liked it, but uses wind0ze for apps and such(dumb bastard =P) but he won't mind linux.

I sometimes boot into windows to play C&C Renegade but not frequently... EA sucks anyway for not making linux ports and only releasing a renegade server for Red Hat 8.0(im not saying RH8  sucks, I'm just saying that it's not the only distro around so don't hit me plz)
