Do a clean install of Win XP and Win 98 on two different machines. Now start up both of them. Which one demands to be "activated"?
Take a good look at each one's desktop. Then ask which one looks most like that of a toy computer called "My First PC"?
Connect both to the Internet. Which one constantly nags you to sign up for a "Passport", even though you've already told it "No"?
Connect both to the 'Net via a proxy or hardware firewall. Which one keeps trying to connect to www.microsoft.com, even though you have no intention to browse that domain?
Play a CD or DVD in either's media player. Which one immediately "phones home"?
Swap out some hard, such as an HD or mobo. Reboot. Which one demands to be "activated" once again?
Then ask him: which one SUX the most? It shouldn't be too hard to figure that one out.
1. Use Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition and you won't ever be asked to activate your copy of Windows.
2.Use StylesXP, Windows Blinds or LiteStep to customize your desktop looks. Then voolah...no more toy looking GUI. ;P
3. Open Messenger, click on tools------>options----->preferences tab------->uncheck "run this program at windows startup". No more Passport nagging. ;P
4. Funny, my system never tries to connect to microsoft.com unless I go there on my own.
5. All modern media players phone home to get media info about what you are playing. Big deal, LoL. You can always download Spybot Search&Destroy at
http://beam.to/spybotsd and run it once. It will find WMP related keys that makes it phone home and you can delete the keys. Then the problem is solved.
5.Once again. Use Windows XP Corporate and you will never be bothered with activation.
