WinXP Boot from 200 gt hd
« on: 25 January 2004, 17:12 »
I hope nobody has started thread like this before...

I used to have Win Me, then I moved to XP pro. It worked
almost like I excepted, then I got new hard drive which
was 200 gt, my old was 40 gt.

When I put second hd to my computer, I had some mess whit
master pinn (or jumper or what ever)... I mean that little
thing that connects those 2 little wires. Anyway when I
finally made it and proceeded to installing Windows to new
hard drive. Well, first I thought that I'll just keep one
big 200 gt part and installed Win XP to it. Installation went
whitout error messages, and I thought every thing would work.
I was wrong. When I booted my computer, error message appeared
to my screen: "NTLDR no found" (error message was in finnish,
but I guess it would be that in english).

I was suprised, and tried to install windows again. Same error
message... =/ I called to some my friends, one of them said that
it's much better choise to split hd to 20 and 180 gt parts.
When I did this, and installed Win to 20 gt part, everything
worked! Whee... I'm just wondering why hell windowns can't be
installed to "too big" hard drive? I mean it can be installed,
but it giver really weirdo error message.

Finally it took 8 hours to make all work like it should =)

Windows worked well 20 days, then I had to format C and install
windows and lots of software again.

Probably a compatibility issue with either your hardware, or WinXP.  There's a lot of goofy limits on hard drives out there, so who knows.

(BTW: It's "gb" not "gt".    )

Giga byte.

Oh, and "NTLDR not found" - I've seen that at my school lots of times (Windows 2000).  Fixable, but would show up for no reason.
