Dell Does Microsoft's Dirty Work

Enjoy. For those of you doubting that a crashed W2K/WXP machine automagically reboots, read this thread and the linked article.

Hey kids! Even Compaq wants to get in the game with it's how-to for the average moron. The infamous Any Key FAQ.

If you manage to venture into the Operating Systems forum on the HardOCP forums, you'll also note that 98% of the posts made are problems with XP... drivers that are broken, pirated machines that stopped working, bad installs.

i'm almost certain that you know this, but, wtf !

the fact that homer simpson in the episode that he
eats himself fat to be working at home, and than gets to sit behind the computer, and when the computer says 'press any key' he says 'where's the any key??' was based on a REAL telephone call to microsoft's helpdesk.

And that was before XP was here ....

[3F05] King- Size Homer
quote:
"Press any key"

Benjamin Robinson says, "Before you laugh at Homer, consider this: The Compaq help desk reports that one of the most frequent new-user questions is, `Where's the "Any" key?'  The folks at Compaq fielded this one so often that they eventually gave up and changed all their documentation to read, `Press the ENTER key.'"
