Deleting XP's memory
« on: 3 April 2002, 04:29 »
Hey Im a newb on the whole windows hacking scene, but I was just wondering how to clear windows XP memory.  By that I mean its uncanny ability to remember stuff!  I need to fix this damn C-Dilla for Max but can't because it...remembers some stuff.  Thx.

Well main memory is "cleared" when you shutdown the computer.  Windows will "remember" things by placing then on a disk file an/or in the registry, which is of course one or more disk files.

Maybee you should let someone else fix the box.

to clear the registry, just go to the start menu, select run, and type "regedit" in the box.
This will start a program which looks similar to windows explorer, but which lists the contents of your registry.
It is a fairly easy to use tool, and it should allow you to delete anything you want from your registry.

Also go to this site here to find many registry rubbish that could either help you or waste your time. the best download from here would probably be regclean.
just run this and it'll make a backup of the current state of yr registry in whatever directory you ran it from, so when you've sorted out yr registry to yr satisfaction, make sure and run regclean so you can rollback to that registry at any time...

good luck!

Well I suggest if you want to re-install that you get Partition magic...install that then make the floppies you need....then re-partion and re-format.

Good Luck....if you are going to dual boot with Linux...make two partions than install Windows first then Linux.

if you have got only one partition, you can use a dos starup floppy (called a windows emergency startup disk by the gui) to format c:
just make the disk (from control panel->system i think) then reboot with it in the a: drive, and you should get a dos prompt, so long as yr BIOS is set to boot from the floppy before the HD...

Opening commandprompt in Windows XP (DOS commands are still there):
Start | Programs | Accecoures (I don't know how to spell this in English) | Command prompt |
Try FORMAT C:\ here... it works while Windows XP is on (I tried it @ school    )

Does this guy know what reformating a disk is?  Does he know it delets your whole hard drive?  Does he know it has nothing to do w/ c-dilla?  Well if he doesn't, I hope he get's rid of microsoft and decides instead to go to linux.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have found the trillionth easily preventable bug in a Microsoft OS.  You have just won the privlage of being frustrated with an over priced, unreliable OS that makes you conform to its standards.  How does that make you feel?
