Real Media brings .wma to linux

no, i wouldn't think that's what it means from the look of it. i could be wrong though...

Real did reverse engineer the wmt media format, so Real at least has the technical capability to do it.  They are going to make their server, producer software, and player open source, but hasn't said much about the codecs yet.  So all in all there is a strong possibility that wma will be able to be played from linux, but like many others -I'll believe it when I see it.

The reason I believe that the format could be coming to linux is that this server software for delivering the content is open source. That means someone could take the code and make a windows media player for linux.

MPlayer already supports wma format, and almost all other formats. The reason it can is because it has the ability to use the Win32 codecs. At least it supports wma v1.0, are there higher versions of wma?

And for those that don't know. MPlayer (Movie Player) is the most kick ass video player I have ever seen in Linux. Cool skins for it too.
