I'd say C or C++
A knowledge of opengl/SDL is needed too, I would assume.

Are you trying to make your own 3D engine or are you going to use a currently existing one?

rtgwbmsr:
C++/Cocoa is what I put down in the description.

I'm not sure on the engine thing. I will probably get someone's opinion on that. If we do choose an engine, it will have to be heavily modified. What I want to do with this game isn't that common...

The description, BTW:

quote: Callista will be an FPS game, with first and hopefully third person views. The main difference between this game and most other games is the number of ways you can play. It will be open-ended enough for a person to play it repeatedly, but see the game world through a different perspective each time. It is closed-in enough so that the user does not wander around for hours without any satisfaction of winning, etc. I have noticed this in quite a few games recently, and is something I would like to avoid with this game.

Next, the technical aspects. The game will be supported on the Macintosh (OS X) and Linux platforms, and possibly Windows in the distant future. It will be programmed in C++ and/or Cocoa. Speed intensive functions may be programmed in a more efficient language. As for graphics, I would like to push the graphics hardware available as hard as possible, when we get to that step.
--- End quote ---

Hopefully sourceforge will accept it...

I'll post some sketches and renderings later.

What the hell!?!?  Did you make all those from scratch?  If so, I must say you are very good at 3d modelling.  It took me 3 weeks to make a character in 3ds max and it didn't turn out looking half as good!

rtgwbmsr:
Take an ugly looking nude with a blank face, give her a face and some color, and the clothes are optional.    ;)

There are a few clipping mistakes in there though...

BTW: Use specialized programs, and then import. Bryce 5 or 3DS Max for Landscaping, Poser 4/5 for people (and some animals) and 3DS/Maya for inanimate objects, especially rooms.
