i was kind of meaning that the system fucks it up rather than the tired old sysadmin, in front of a root console propping eyes open with matchsticks and dropping caffeine pills like m&ms...

They say there's no such thing as a computer error, but Microsoft windows has proved otherwise, and system restore just confirms it. Human error is the reason for backups, Microsoft windows is the reason for system restore...

no its so they can find all yer porn - (1) - graphy and look at it for you. and its so *all* your porn comes back to to you later. like when you don't want it. i agree that the only real reason that a system should have an autorestore is for Stupid User Error. and besides from expereince, what i just mentioned in the first paragraph is the only thing its gonna bring back. i killed /*not on purpose, it kinda didn't like itself too much that week*/ a windows Molested Edition computer and sysrestore had no effect in trying to bring it back from whistle land

My idea of system restore...

root@localhost ~ # cp /dev/hd(drive)(partition) /(where you want to save it all to)
im my case its:
root@localhost ~ # cp /dev/hda2 /prog
then i split it up with a program i made.

which gives me about 3 files of backup for whatever partions...

Then i burn it to a cd with "cdrecord/x-cdroast"
