I just bought RedHat Linux 8.0 yesterday, i must say i do love it even tho im a huge ass noob with it. I noticed that i couldn't play MPG, MPEG, AVI, and so on right outa the box set. What is a good media player to use for these extensions? That is if Linux can even play them. Thanks.

i think mplayer is the way to go. install apt-get first, then installing mplayer will be a breeze.
Install Apt-get

Thanks man, i do like it, i also got DivX for linux...havn't tried that tho...thanks again

I have to agree. MPlayer is the best media player for Linux nowadays. I really don't know why RedHat did not put support out of the box for MPEG files. There was a thread about that issue in the UNIX/Linux forum. You can look it up by using the "search" link at the top of this page. Last but not least, don't forget to visit void main's linux forums!
Sorry I forgot. Welcome to the boards!
