I just bought RedHat Linux 8.0 yesterday, i must say i do love it even tho im a huge ass noob with it. I noticed that i couldn't play MPG, MPEG, AVI, and so on right outa the box set. What is a good media player to use for these extensions? That is if Linux can even play them. Thanks.

Thats funny, I thought xmovie could play these formats just fine. Does Red Hat no longer come with xmovie?

Red Hat pulled all MP3 en/decoders out of v8 because of a re-wording on the MP3 Patent Holder's License.
see this for more info.
Basically it was a misunderstanging; but an important one: MP3 is not "free as in speech", but right now it is "free as in beer". Of course that could change....

Like I said - Ogg all the way. MP3 is a proprietary format for the RIAA to charge people with - in the future at least.
Edit: My 1000th post! Holy shit I spend a lot of time here!
