How much does Microsoft make

(1/11) > >>

Kintaro:
How many $$$'s are Microsoft Making per X-Bochs console?

preacher:
X11, simply put video game console including the xbox, gamecube and ps2 are all sold at a loss by the manufacturers. They make the real money with the software sales. Thats why when Sega got out of the hardware business and focused on software, they were able to finally turn a profit after years of losing money. Ill look it up and see at exactly how much of a loss Microsoft sells the Xbox.

preacher:
According to this news article at http://news.com.com/2100-1001-274648.html?tag=rn

"Merrill Lynch analyst Henry Blodgett expects Microsoft to sell Xbox at a loss of about $100 per unit. "

This was back when the xbox cost $299, they are probably losing even more now.

okay... everybody that can afford an X-box, go out and buy 1,000 of them, and then lock 'em away and never get games for 'em

or better yet, put Linux on 'em

voidmain:
That's what I've been saying from the beginning. If everyone goes out and buys all of the X-botchs off the shelf before the kiddie gamers can get hold of them then M$ will not sell any games and it will be a total loss. You can make beowulf clusters out of the cheap X-Botch hardware. Why do you think M$ has been fighting so hard against the mod chips that allow Linux to be run on these machines?
