People are stupid, and I think Microsoft is starting to realise that. For example, when you first use WIndows XP and you go to C:\, it says that it's dangerous to change anything there. And of course the balloon tips meanth for idiots.

When I think of it, I guess Windows XP was made for stupid people anyways...

Hmmm, if they have automatic updates then they could inforce DRM (and/or broken patches)and the like without the users knowledge. So if something stops working for no reason, i'd know why.

I think it's great because those that don't have land lines or Internet access won't be able to use Windows, and they be forced to use a real OS.

you'll find that this is already the case in XP, there is a clause in the EULA for XP where the user signs the right over to microsoft to install anything without prior concent on the user's computer. read it and weep.

You are right, auto updates are default in XP. They are also default in 2k.

Auto updates are default yes, but in Longhorn it will be different.

Windows XP first downloads an update and then asks you if it's OK to install it. Longhorn doesn't ask that anymore, it just installs.
