Why stop using it?
Just because it is a Microsoft device is hardly a valid reason. You're not hurting MS by stopping using it, they already have your money. Further than that, you are hurting yourself by wasting a perfectly functional piece of hardware.

People ceasing to use Microsoft software is rational, because it is shite. But throwing away your intellimouse PURELY because MS make it? Ridiculous!
It does what it's supposed to do doesn't it? If it ain't broke...

Now waiting until it breaks, _that's_ a good idea.

I once got a Microsoft IntelliMouse for free. And I threw it away, because just like the Xbox controller, the mouse is just too big.
Now I have a Logitech one, which fits nicely.

Maybe having a Microsoft product on his desktop damages his morale.

Speaking of mice, I still have my FuckMicrosoft.com mousepad, though I decommissioned it recently.

Yeah, I agree. It's just hard to look at the Microsoft logo the same way after finding this site and knowing what I know now.
