Gfx Cards and MoBo's

Hello all.

This will probably have some of you in fits but here goes......

I have this problem with a Gfx card I brought a couple of weeks ago.

I got my old box out of the cuboard [butchered bits off it for my new box but gradually replaced them] and the card doesnt seem to fit in the AGP slot.

The MoBo is a Gigabyte GA-81DMNF and the Gfx card is a PalitDaytona SiS 6326 AGP.

Im not too savvy with hardware but I thought that there was a standard compatibility with AGP slots?

Or...did I get mugged off with a defunct card or something?

I think there are some different size slots, like 2x, 4x, and 8x. Or at least something like that. I know that the later ones are backwards compatible though, so it's just a matter of figuring which one you have.

nah...its not a PCI.

It says on the box that its

The card that I took and used in my new box is a NVIDIA GeForce 2 MMX400, so I take it that it must be an 8x slot or something.

Adventurous Gelatin Plugs are cool.

if your board is AGP 4x/8x, then the card should work. I can think of no reason why it shouldn't, unless someone is DECEIVING you.

Check that site...it doesn't even list that board...odds are it's a 2x...how old was the dust on that dino???

The only thing that I can think of is you are trying to stick a non-1.5v AGP card into a 1.5v slot.

There are like 3 different kinds of AGP slots, each with differing backwards compatibility.  You should look at the little tab in the slot.  They are designed to fit into slots in the cards.

the AGP 1.0 slot looks kindof like a backwards PCI slot.  The 2.0 slots look the same, but backwards (that is, the little tab is near the front of the computer, like on a PCI slot).
