Hey,
I'm using Mandrake 8.1 on a dual boot with win98.
I have a couple problems that I'm pretty sure are inter-related. Wonder if anyone has a possible solution.
The problems are with every browser (Mozilla 0.9.4, Netscape, Galeon and Konqueror) I am having this problem in Mandrake. Alot of the time I have to click a link or bookmark 3 or 4 times before it will go through. It looks like it is trying but the modem is doing nothing.
Also I can't get download speeds higher than 2k per second (usually alot less) in any of the browsers or in ftp.
Under Windows I use Mozilla 0.9.9 and I don't have the clicking problem or the download problem. I have a dialup connection that will only connect at 28800 max because of these ancient phone lines we have, but I can do 3.6-4.2K per second downloads.
Additionally when both my wife and I are on the net she says her internet speeds run about half as fast when I am using Mandrake as when I am using windows even if I am not using the net. I don't notice any difference in internet speeds between the 2 OS's on my comp. When I can get the click to go through they both work well.
Ok so it seems obvious that something in the mandrake setup is not quite right but I haven't a clue what it could be. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem?
Also one thing more I forgot to mention. If I restart my network it will work perfectly for clicks for about half an hour then go back to the repetitive clicks problem. The other problems don't change after a network restart.
