WOW. Well, I must say that I totally agree in that Linux needs to mature before it can become as dominant as Windows. However, I'm shocked that these words would come out of RH CEO's mouth and that he, the CEO of a Linux company, would tell people to use Windows.

The only explanation I can come up with is Bill Gates started practicing witchcraft and decided to possess the guy.

Either way, I"m sure Billy boy is having a nice laugh right now...

Actually, I almost agree with RH CEO, except that the right product for consumers is Mac OS X, not Windows.

I wouldn't want that to happen. Not because you can't run existing programs for windows on a MAC. OSX is a good OS and the G5 is a good processor but:

It only works on one type of computer. Fair enough (since windows only works on PC's) but you have to get a PC made by Apple.

Macs are ridiculously expensive (compared to PC's of the same speed)

They lie about how their G5 is faster than a similar processor for a PC. A bit like when MS says windows is more secure than linux.

I'd rather everyone used windows insted of MAC's. Hell apple even make billy g seem like a nice guy.

I concur with some of what you say except about the part where you would rather have evryone use windows. I hope a true monopoly never occurs.

I have to agree.  RH9  is the last distro for me.  If anything i'll switch.  Probably SuSE or something.  I don't know yet.

I don't know what he's talking about...my dad can use Redhat and Fedora without a problem..and up until about 3 months ago he didn't know how to turn a computer on.   :(  don't get much more computer illiterat than him.   They only want money, and as it's free to home users, there's no money there.  God I hope RedHat doesn't turn into the next M$ that would be truly tragic.
Microsoft is not the answer.
Microsoft is the question.
"No" is the answer!
The nice thing about Windows is - It does not just crash, it displays a dialog box and lets you press 'OK' first.

I think the free software community should focus on something that is truly non-commercial that others can use as the backbone for their OS.  Maybe based on Debian, but with more up-do-date packages and an easy gui installer.

But nobody should waste their time beta testing RHEL - besides its GNOME-based, ewwww.  Nothing thrashes the hard disk like a good gnome install...

Maybe the CEO meant the stupid consumers...

Either way, Windows is indeed easier than Linux.  Perhaps the RH guy doesn't care, since RH is moving away from consumer Linux anyway.  :(

How do you figure?

Linux has no crashes, no playing around with drivers, an easy to use gui, and codecs that will just play the shit and thats all tip of the ice berg.

Running windows on the desktop would be like running OpenBSD on the same thing.  It can be done but its tough as hell.  The only difference would be that OpenBSD would be secure and windows will not!

Ridiculously expensive compared to speed, eh? My Honda is faster than your computer. 100% stock '80s cars rule.

On that note, the whole of the 1980s kicked ass. Why? Well, for one, everything was better then. We didn't have shiteater "terrorists" being pests, and all this other bullshit.

That's what today's world is... BULLSHIT. From the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep, nothing but BULLSHIT.
Go the fuck ~
