Linux wont boot
« on: 8 April 2003, 08:26 »
I recently shutdown my Linux system to remove an extra harddrive from it. Now when I try to boot I keep getitng this error:

mount: error 6 mounting ext3 flags Kernel panic: No init found. try passing init= option to kernel.

Any way to fix this?

Ouch.  You may have trashed your boot partition or something.  Do you have a boot floppy you can use?

I think I have one but I haven't got the slightest clue where its at.

I'm also wondering, since the Linux HD was the Primary Slave drive in the computer and is now the Primary Master, would that have anything to do with it?

most likley
Windows [n.]
A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.

Figures... So, is there any way to fix it without  having to re-install? I can't find a boot disk anywhere

Most distributions come with a rescue mode when you boot from the cd dont they?
Yesterday it worked
Today it is not working
Windows is like that

I think that you can boot from the CD and go in rescue mode. You should have a boot disk anyway.

I'll try that as soon as I find my install disk I just burned last week

EDIT: I tried the rescue thing...

exiting init -- giving hand to recue
rescue: rescue: No such file or directory
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

I'll try a boot disk now...

EDIT again: Stupid me... I should delete the 8.2 iso's from my computer. Instead of burning a 9.0 cd1 I bruned an 8.2 cd one...

EDIT 3: Blah... rescue comand isn't working...
Error
Cound not uncompress the second stage ramdisk. This is probably an hardware error while reading the data. (this may be caused by a hardware failure or a Linux kernel bug)
Well I'll go download the thing Calum told me to download tommorow... To tired to tonight.
