19" monitor
« on: 24 July 2002, 15:56 »
i have a 19" monitor, it only cost me like $200. i figured out that there docs are fulla shit, cuase the monitor only returns EDID frequincs that support 1280x1024, but it was advertised as 1600x1200, that involved a XFree86 Configre hack, to get it to support 1600x1200, but i noticed when i put in the monitors max horiz and vert refresg, the osd control comes up as 65hrz, the current max that the manual whis is 50-150 vert and 85khz max hors. i have also heard that X is good for killing the hell out of monitors, how far with setting the horiz freq should i go, or since its a multisync, would that mean i would just put it out of range and it wouldn't work, cuase i had a problem like that in windows, cuase my video card can drive all the way up to 2048x1536/*i think that the res*/ i want someone else to say something, before i start palying with this stuff

all I know was that I made a health hazard (no kidding ... it's a radiation emitting monster) out of my old 1024x768 monitor when I had put it on 1600x1200 (by accident)

I personally prefer a smaller resolution with a higher refresh rate (1280x1024 usually) cause it's a lot easier on my eyes ....

Then again ... my main pc has a LCD monitor which doesn't have this problem (it's 1024x768 max though)
If you can't learn to do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly.

i looked thorugh the manual, ok heres a bullshit monitor, it lies about its capibiilitys and it has a more expensive cousin that has a vertkilhertz of 96, i think they did this in the same way as some cdrw drives that you can make go faster. but when i try the exact freq of the expensive one, it syncs out, but if i say goto 92khz its fine, the screen setting is a bit wonky, but who cares, im keeping it at 86 khz though, cuase 1600x1200 at 65 hertz isn't bad, i don't ahrdly notice the flicker, but i have seen a $300 sun display/*atleast on ebay*/ that can go to like 2048x1536 at 60hertz and 1600x1200 at 85 hertz i think. and as for health hazard, if can render a 1600x1200 screen without error, its fine with me
