i found a link for Winex from winehq.org once actually. it was either the second or third row that had a link to the page that had the link to Winex. yes it really was Winex because it installed as TransGaming and the command was winex instead of wine.

Stryker, I have HL running under mandrake 8.1 with wine, but no sound.   :(   What kind of video card do you have?

I'm running video off of a Trident CyberBladeXP running on a laptop monitor Toshiba TOS5082. It installs just fine. It just hangs after i enter the registration number. I get one menu option at the top left, it has the same background that halflife should in that area. about75x10 pixels. then the rest looks like normal and i lose control of keyboard and mouse. I then had to use CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to get out and relogin.
